Mzee Maalim Aden — before and after BORESHA NABAD’s support.
When prolonged feed shortages hit Una village, Moalin Aden, a father of 13, watched his livelihood crumble before his eyes. His two-hectare farm and herd of cows, goats, and donkeys had sustained his family for years. But as the drought deepened, his animals weakened, and five of his cows died.
What he feared most became real: the future of his family was at risk.
In October 2025, Mzee Aden’s story took a new turn.
Through the EU-funded BORESHA_NABAD project, implemented by RACIDA Somalia in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture in Jubaland State, Somalia, Mzee Aden received a package of sorghum, maize, and simsim seeds, along with practical training on climate-smart agricultural practices.
Armed with new knowledge, he planted sorghum that not only survived the harsh conditions but flourished.
The results were transformative:
🌾 Nutritious fodder for his livestock, helping them regain weight and strength.
🍽️ Improved household food security as the harvest fed his family.
💰 Income from selling surplus sorghum and simsim, allowing him to cover basic needs.
“Before, I feared losing everything when some of my cattle died. Now, with BORESHA NABAD, I have hope. My animals are healthier, my family eats, and I can sell crops to support my children’s future,” Aden shared.
Mzee Aden’s journey, from despair to resilience, demonstrates the power of climate-smart solutions in restoring livelihoods and stabilizing families even in the harshest conditions.
This is what sustainable impact looks like.
One farmer strengthened. One family uplifted. One community moving toward resilience.
