RACIDA has Kicked off a Cross-Border Emergency Response for Conflict-Affected Communities targeting vulnerable households along the Kenya–Somalia border. The project was formally introduced during a Cash Working Group meeting, marking the start of a coordinated, cash-led emergency intervention.
Implemented by RACIDA (Kenya) with support from Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, and in close collaboration with Nomadic Assistance for Peace and Development (NAPAD) in Somalia, the six-month response focuses on conflict-affected border communities facing displacement, food insecurity, and psychosocial distress.
In Kenya, RACIDA will implement the project in Barwaqo and Bulla Kamor villages, Mandera East Sub-County, where 384 vulnerable households (approximately 2,688 individuals) will receive unconditional cash assistance to meet immediate food and basic needs. In parallel, the project will improve access to psychosocial support services for children, women, and other vulnerable groups, strengthening community-based referral pathways and early identification of trauma-related distress.
In Somalia, NAPAD will lead implementation in Belet Hawa District, delivering cash- and voucher-based food assistance to 269 conflict-affected households (approximately 1,600 individuals) while supporting psychosocial outreach and community awareness activities for displaced and host communities affected by the ongoing conflict.
Through this cross-border collaboration, the project aims to restore dignity, stabilize livelihoods, and strengthen protection-sensitive responses in one of the most fragile border regions in the Horn of Africa. The intervention reflects RACIDA’s commitment to coordinated, people-centered humanitarian action that addresses immediate needs while reinforcing community resilience.
RACIDA will continue to work closely with partners, government authorities, coordination mechanisms, and humanitarian partners to ensure timely, accountable, and effective delivery of assistance across both sides of the border.
